Adrienne Conway

Adrienne studied design at East Sydney Technical College with major interests in silk screening, fabric design, mural work in two and three dimensions, ceramics, theatre and costume design. In 1968 she established a studio in Sydney designing and printing fabrics for boutique shops and fashion designers.  She also worked as a design consultant to a group of Sydney architects and had several commissions for her mural work.

On moving to Batemans Bay in 1983 Adrienne joined the bay theatre players where she began designing and constructing sets and making costumes for many of their shows and for their costume hire shop. She has been nominated on several occasions for a Canberra area Theatre Award and in 2003 she succeeded in winning a ‘CAT’ award for best set design for the play ‘The One Day of the Year’.

In mid-2003 she started painting seriously in watercolours, acrylics, inks, encaustics and mixed media combining her love of colour, free form, thread work and beading. She has attended many different workshops over the years to hone her skills. Her subject matter is wide and varied and ranges from realism to abstract. She enjoys working on large canvasses using bright bold colours and is equally at home doing watercolour miniatures using soft misty effects.

Her work has sold locally and interstate and hangs in private collections in Batemans Bay, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Flaxton Qld, the UK, Singapore, Canada and the USA.

Over the years she has won many awards in all her chosen mediums, notably: First Prize Contemporary 2004 - Lane Cove Art Society, the Award of Excellence 2011- Shoalhaven Art Society; the Tumut Shire Award 2012; Grand Champion of the Eurobodalla District Show 2015, the GJ Gardner Award of Excellence 2017, 2nd overall Tumut 2019.

For several years Adrienne was Vice President of the ‘Batemans Bay Arts & Crafts Society’ now known as ‘Creative Arts Batemans Bay Inc’ (CABBI) and for 2016 to 2017 she was President. She now holds the position of Exhibition Convener.

Adrienne joined the Queanbeyan Art Society in 2011 and has succeeded winning many awards in their monthly exhibitions. She currently holds weekly classes in watercolour and enjoys conducting workshops in watercolour, mixed media, acrylics and ink pouring techniques.
